Valentine’s Day Clothing Swap

IVALO.COM <3 Valentine's Day & Clothing Swap. Read our recommendation for Valentine's Day celebrations and get familiar with the trend concept Clothing Swap.

My dear calendar, still in a physical form, is marked with a tiny red heart on the top corner of 14th of February. And not by me, it’s actually printed there on my otherwise boring and formal pocket calendar. Yes, Valentine’s Day it is! And as we are lucky to celebrate it on a Friday this year, I decided to make us all some nice plans.

What is special about Valentine’s Day in Finland is that instead of celebrating it only with the loved ones, we celebrate it with friends. Okay, we also joined the celebrations quite late, only around 40 years ago, while elsewhere Valentine’s Day has been celebrated already for hundreds of years and it possibly even originated already in ancient Rome. So we have to keep up with the celebrations. Let’s do it this year in a Finnish way and take the opportunity to cherish and praise friendship. As the plan is to gather our dearest friends together, I thought it would be a great time to give it a try to a clothing swap. Friends, Fashion & Fentimans Rose Lemonade (you can also make pretty nice drinks out of it), sounds like a perfect Valentine’s Day!

Clothing swaps were first introduced to us by Suzanne Agasi in San Francisco in late 1990s, and during the past years they have been gaining a lot of momentum. And no wonder, as it is a great way of both recycling and finding new favourite fashion items. In addition to private swaps, which we are now talking about, there are also public ones, organized for example during the Fashion Revolution Week in many cities. The idea of a swap in a nutshell is that each participant brings the fashion items which are no longer being used and swaps them with the ones brought by others – someone’s trash is someone else’s treasure. No money is exchanged so there is no need for those MobilePay requests.

To help your celebration preparations a little, I even wrote an invitation ready for you. Feel free to copy and send it to the dear friends of yours:

Dear Friend,

Welcome to a Valentine’s Day Celebration and Clothing Swap @ my place on Friday evening, the 14th of February.

This is how it goes:
1. Bring with you the clothes you no longer use, for a reason or another, but can imagine your friends being happy to use
2. Swap your unneeded items to those brought by others and make some amazing finds
3. In case you don’t want to take your remaining clothes back home with you, let’s take those together to a donation box

Feel free to bring some Valentine’s Day sweets – rose lemonade drinks will be offered by the house. <3

Love, X

So, making a recap: High recommendation for celebrating Valentine's Day in a Finnish way – friendship could never be over celebrated. And also, high recommendation for taking this opportunity to try out a clothing swap. It’s a seriously fun and sustainable way of acquiring new fashion items and getting rid of the old, unused ones. We, at IVALO.COM love everything where sustainability and fashion are combined. If you happen to have a clothing rack available, use it to hang the treasures or otherwise organize them nicely. Either let the swap flow on its own or come up with some additional rules, if you like. Let’s make our Valentine’s Day Clothing Swaps unforgettable!

Wishing you the happiest Valentine’s Day,
Salla
