NUUWAI

Seen in world fashion magazines, Nuuwaï is a modern German vegan bag brand. Nuuwaï founder Svenja Detto became vegan years ago, soon after she had adopted her first cat. She had always considered herself an animal person but had not felt contact with farm animals. One night he was watching a documentary called Earthlings. She was greatly influenced by the film, she was sad and in shock. The next day, Svenja became vegan.

The idea of founding Nuuwaï also came from watching TV when Svenja saw the program on apple-made leather. She was amazed and excited about this innovation because even at that time, most vegan leather bags were made of plastic. She started looking for bags made of “apple skin” but couldn’t find them anywhere.

She discussed the matter with her father one day and her father encouraged Svenja to start her own business. Svenja had long dreamed of a job related to veganism but had not thought it would be found in fashion. The leap into entrepreneurship was worthwhile, as Nuuwaï won the Best Vegan Brand Award at the 2019 Eluxe Awards.

“Apple skin” is generated as a surplus waste, mainly from apple juice production. The waste from the apples is dried and ground into a fine powder. The powder is then mixed with polyurethane. Then the material is applied to a tear-resistant roll with a cotton cloth. The rollers are then heated to make them weatherproof. The finished fabric can still be embossed, giving it a different surface texture, for example, that looks like leather.

Nuuwaïn bags are a vegan alternative to leather bags. In addition to apples, 100% recycled plastic bottles or fishing nets may be used in the manufacture of the products.

Nuuwaï’s collections feature beautiful pastel shades as well as minimalist black. Bags and wallets are available in several sizes and for different purposes, so Nuuwaï certainly has something for everyone.
