Description

Ethno traces the roots of The Knotty Ones' Baltic culture, with intricate tonal symbols traditionally used to keep you balanced and in harmony. Inspired by unique Baltic ethnographic patterns, it's perfectly oversized and promises to keep you twice as cozy. Ethno's made from alpaca wool sourced from social farms in Peru. The Knotty Ones haven't used any chemical dyes: those colors are the actual alpaca shades. Fluffy, fuzzy and impossibly warm, Ethno's prolonged sleeves are the final cherry on top. This genderless knit was designed as part of the brand's collaboration with their fav Lithuanian designer, Eglė Žiemytė.

100% Undyed alpaca wool (mulesing-free)

Please note that this knit is extra oversized and we recommend to size down. The sweater is wide in all sizes, and the biggest difference between sizes is the length and sleeve length.

Our model Ieva (first photo) is 1.74m / 5'7'' and is wearing our Ethno Sweater in size M. Our models Liutauras and Kim are 1.88m / 6'2'' and are also wearing our Ethno Sweater in size M.

Measurements:
Width: 61cm / 24in (size S), 66cm / 26in (size M), 74cm / 29.1in (size L)
Length: 62cm / 24.4in (size S), 70cm / 27.6in (size M), 75cm / 29.5in (size L)

10€ Towards Your Knitter's Dream. What's that?

The Knotty Ones was started with the dream to provide stable jobs, fair wages and financial independence to women, mostly stay-at-home moms in rural areas of Lithuania, who otherwise would not have these opportunities in life.

The brand makes sure that their knitters earn enough to provide themselves and their families with the basics of a decent life — be it a warm meal on their dinner table, school supplies for their kids, medical care, clothing, paying electricity bills or housing. While they wish they could increase knitters' salaries beyond just a fair wage, the reality of operating a small independent label with design, marketing and premium material costs does not necessarily allow to do so.

The Knotty Ones wanted to create a platform that gave knitters a realistic shot at achieving their bigger, wilder dreams.

Now with each purchase, you can choose to donate €10 directly towards a dream of a woman who made your knit. If you wish to do so, you can choose to add a €10 donation to your purchase. It will go directly towards making these dreams come true. If you rather not, that's totally cool too. We are super grateful for helping create stable jobs and incomes for women.

About the brand

The name The Knotty Ones is a pun. Knotty sounds like a bit of the English word ‘Naughty’ when pronounced. This describes the brand and its founders perfectly, they are rebellious and a little naughty.

The founders of The Knotty Ones, Sandra, Danute, and Akvile, traveled together in Asia in 2014. During their backpacking trip, they got to know the local culture as well as the local factory workers of the fast fashion companies, among others. They were shocked by the circumstances and the fact that about 85% of the workers in the factories were women.

They were outraged by the exploitation of vulnerable women in poor countries. Sandra, Danute, and Akvile set fire to the matter against exploitation.

The women combined their strengths and founded The Knotty Ones, which designs and manufactures the most beautiful knitwear in the world. They wanted to employ women and pay them a decent wage.

Sandra, Danute, and Akvile consider it important to be the women themselves who hire women to weave clothes for women. Women’s rights and social responsibility are important to The Knotty Ones.

Most of The Knotty Ones ’weavers are Lithuanian housewives living in remote areas. Each of The Knotty Ones knits is made to order and knitted by hand using only 100% natural materials. In The Knotty One's knitwear, you can intertwine with cotton, merino wool, or alpaca, for example.

Based in New York and Lithuania, The Knotty Ones wants to create sustainable fashion, as well as challenge other companies to take responsibility. Also, they hope to be able to inspire women to start businesses.

When you buy The Knotty Ones knit, you can do some extra good if you want. You can make a voluntary donation to a knitter for this personal dream. It could be, for example, a trip to Italy, a diving course or an English lesson.

Beautiful and casual sweater

A wonderfully soft knit to wrap up in on winter nights.
