Trippen is the first international shoe brand to join IVALO. They answered our questions about the ideology behind Trippen:
How was Trippen born?
Trippen was born in 1992, when Angela Spieth and Michael Oehler launched
their first collection of wooden shoes during an exhibition at a Berlin
art gallery. After years of previous experience in the footwear industry
and as a bespoke shoe maker, the two set up their own label to proof
that things could be, indeed, done differently.
What inspires you to create very Japanese inspired shoes?
Japanese and German handcrafting culture is quite similar, that’s the
reason why we feel so common with Japanese design.
What is your view on fashion world and trends today?
Trends cannot be ignored completely in today’s fashion world, but our approach
is to translate them into timeless pieces, which outlast short-lived trends.
Trippen is know to be super comfortable, how do you ensure that comfort doesn’t jeopardise the amazing design?
Our goal is, time and again, to design the “perfect” shoe. Comfort, amongst other
criteria like sustainability, environmental awareness and fair labour
conditions, form the basis, on which we develop our designs.
Can you name your favourite Trippen design piece at the moment?
Tiger is certainly among our personal favourites right now.
